$100,000 Pelican Stakes Draws Field of Eight Louisiana-Breds
On Saturday at Delta Downs, the featured race is the $100,000 Pelican Stakes. Restricted to three-year-olds bred in Louisiana, the race will be run at seven and a half furlongs and has drawn a field of eight colts and geldings.
Sea Vow has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 2-1 for trainer Joseph Foster. Bred and owned by Ronald Webb, the bay gelding has won four of his seven starts and has been on the board a total of six times. Three of his victories have come against state-bred stakes competition and he was last seen finishing third in the LA Bred Premier Night Prince Stakes. Alexander Castillo will be aboard and they will break from post position four.
Icy Gentleman trying for two wins in a row
Second choice at morning line odds of 7-2 is Icy Gentleman for trainer Henry Johnson, Jr. A chestnut son of Yankee Gentleman, the gelding has been on the board in six of his seven starts and will be trying to notch his fourth victory. He is coming out of a victory over Sea Vow in the LA Bred Premier Night Prince Stakes and will break from the outside post under jockey Jorge Guzman.
Step up in class for Chattanoogan
Also in the field at morning line odds of 4-1 is Chattanoogan for trainer Danny Pish. A homebred for Tigertail Ranch, the dark bay colt is by Lone Star Special and has two wins from four starts. He broke his maiden at first asking and after two poor performances against stakes company, he won an allowance race last time out. Chris Rosier will be aboard and they will break from post two.
