$300,000 Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity Headlines Labor Day card
Doug O’Neill will saddle 5/2 morning line favorite Nyquist who is now 2 for 2 after capturing the Grade 2 Best Pal August 8. The son of 2010 two year-old champion Uncle Mo has lived up to his sire’s precocious ways, but will need another big effort against a competitive group of runners. Jockey Mario Gutierrez will be in the irons with the pair set to break from post five.
Maiden winner tries stakes foes
Blameitonthelaw (3/1) was an impressive maiden winner August 2 at Del Mar and warrants plenty of respect despite tackling winners for the first time. Trainer John Sadler has excelled throughout his career with runners making their second career starts, connecting at better than 20%. Blameitonthelaw, a son of 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Blame figures to improve with added distance after winning his debut at six furlongs. Jockey Tyler Baze will be aboard breaking from post 7.
Desormeaux brothers team up
The jockey/trainer combination of Kent and Keith Desormeaux are represented with by 4/1 shot Swipe who has won 1 of 4 career starts including a second-place finish to Nyquist in the Best Pal Stakes. Swipe has hit the board in each start, finishing third in the Tremont Stakes at Belmont and winning the Summer Juvenile Championship Stakes in July at Los Alamitos.
