$400,000 Santa Anita Oaks Draws Field of Eight
Stellar Wind has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 9-5 for trainer John Sadler. A chestnut daughter of Curlin, she won the second start of her career as a juvenile at Laurel Park before heading to the West Coast and taking on stakes company in the San Ysabel (G3). Despite a slow start, she defeated a field of six rivals to earn the first graded stakes win of her career. Victor Espinoza will remain aboard and they will break from post position six.
Luminance going for third straight win
Second choice at 5-2 on the morning line is Luminance for trainer Bob Baffert. Purchased for $320,000, the bay daughter of Tale of the Cat is undefeated from two starts and will be making her stakes debut. Last time out, she delivered as the favorite in her first start of the year at Santa Anita in an optional claiming race. She has had a bullet workout since then and will have Martin Garcia in the irons from post position five.
Light the City aiming for first graded stakes win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Light the City, one of two fillies from the Jerry Hollendorfer barn. A bay daughter of Street Sense, she has been on the board in five of her six starts and was a minor stakes winner as a juvenile. She has been second in her last two starts, both against graded stakes competition. Kent Desormeaux will remain aboard and they are scheduled to break from the inside post.
