$90,000 Daisycutter Features a Six Pack of Sprinters
Stakes racing at Del Mar continues August 8 with the $90,000 Daisycutter Handicap, a sprint for fillies and mares going five furlongs on the Polytrack in what figures to be an entertaining show of speed.
The Daisycutter draws a field of six led by 5/2 morning line favorite Delta Flower who is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer. Delta Flower, a three year-old, enters the race with three wins in five career starts after suffering her second career defeat in the Grade II Summertime Oaks June 21 at Santa Anita – her initial foray into graded stakes company. Her fourth place effort in that race was preceded by a trio of consecutive wins – including two in minor stakes competition at Oaklawn Park and Santa Anita. Rafael Bejarano takes the mount.
Tribal Spy rested and ready for return
Graded stakes winner Tribal Spy from the Adam Kitchingman barn is the 3/1 second choice after a fourth place effort in the Mizdirection Stakes at Santa Anita May 25. Prior to that effort, Tribal Spy won the Grade III Las Cienegas Stakes in April and the Irish O’Brien Stakes in March – both at Santa Anita. Tribal Spy, facing a layoff over two months, has proven successful in her career returning from a similarly spaced break.
Funky Monkey looking to shake loose
Kinz Funky Monkey (4/1) is a proven speed commodity and has proven her effectiveness at this level winning the Manhattan Beach Stakes at Hollywood Park last year and running third in this race. She exits an allowance score at Del Mar July 17 showing the same affinity for the Polytrack surface that she has throughout her career.
