Eagle Looks to Soar in $75,000 Louisiana Stakes
On Saturday at Fair Grounds, the stakes action will begin with the $75,000 Louisiana Stakes. Scheduled to be run at a mile and a sixteenth, the stakes race has drawn a competitive field of seven colts and geldings.
Eagle has been tabbed as the morning line favorite at odds of 2-1 for trainer Neil Howard. A four-year-old son of Candy Ride (ARG) bred and owned by W.S. Farish, he has been on the board in seven of his nine starts and is a five-time winner. He is coming into this race off of three consecutive victories and was last seen winning the Tenacious Stakes at Fair Grounds. Brian Hernandez, Jr. will be aboard and they will break from post position five.
Majestic Harbor a consistent competitor
Second choice at morning line odds of 3-1 is Majestic Harbor for trainer Paul McGee. An eight-year-old son of Rockport Harbor, he is an eight-time winner and a multiple graded stakes winner. The consistent veteran has been on the board in his last four starts, all against graded stakes company, and was third in the Hawthorne Gold Cup (G2) last time out. Corey Lanerie will be in the irons and they will break from post position two.
Second start off the bench for International Star
Also in the field at morning line odds of 9-2 is International Star for trainer Michael Maker. A bay son of Fusaichi Pegasus, he has won five of his ten starts and was heading into the Kentucky Derby (G1) off of three straight wins before being sidelined with injury. He returned off of an eight-month layoff to finish fourth in the Zia Park Derby last time out. Miguel Mena will be aboard and they will break from the outside post.
