Grade 3 Bed O' Roses Attracts Talented Field
The $150,000 Bed O’ Roses Stakes Saturday, June 25 at Belmont Park features a talented group of six fillies and mares set to contest the seven furlong event on the main track.
2015 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint winner Wavell Avenue is the 6/5 morning line favorite and gets some class relief after a third-place and fourth-place effort in a pair grade 1 races earlier this year. The Chad Brown trainee was far from disgraced while finishing third in the Grade 1 Madison in April at Keeneland and came back in the Humana Distaff to make a mild closing move behind runaway winner Taris May 7 at Churchill Downs. Wavell Avenue will break from post 2 while carrying the high weight of 123 lbs.
West Coast Chick doing well
West Coast Chick (3/1) enters the Bed O' Roses in fine form after finishing second in the Grade 3 Vagrancy May 21 at Belmont and no worse than third in any of her last three starts. The Nick Zito trained filly appears to be finding her best stride now and could attract the attention of handicappers looking for a horse heading in the right direction. The daughter of Malibu Moon has always been comfortable over the Belmont main track, but will likely need to show up with the best race of her career to topple the favorite.
Bar of Gold has plenty of zip
Bar of Gold is listed at 4/1 on the morning line, but could certainly overtake West Coast Chick as the second betting choice in the race. The speedy graded stakes winner is fresh off a win in the Grade 3 Critical Eye Stakes and is certainly capapble of taking this field gate to wire.
