Sentiero Italia Headlines Field for $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup
On Saturday at Keeneland, the featured race is the $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes. Restricted to three-year-old fillies, the Grade 1 event has been carded at a mile and an eighth on the turf and has drawn a field of nine.
Sentiero Italia tops the field as the heavy favorite on the morning line at odds of 6-5 for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. A bay daughter of Medaglia d’Oro for Godolphin Racing, she has won four of her six starts and is a multiple graded stakes winner. She comes into this race off of back to back stakes victories and was last seen winning the Sands Point Stakes (G2) at Saratoga. Joel Rosario will be in the irons and they will break from the outside post.
Miss Temple City aiming for breakthrough win
Second choice at morning line odds of 5-1 is Miss Temple City for trainer Graham Motion. A dark bay daughter of Temple City, she is trying to step forward and earn the first graded stakes victory of her career. She has been on the board in seven of her eight starts and was third, beaten only a neck for the runner-up spot, in the Sands Point Stakes (G2) last time out. Drayden Van Dyke will be aboard and they will break from post position three.
Step back up in class for Feathered
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Feathered for trainer Todd Pletcher. A bay daughter of Indian Charlie, she was purchased for $300,000 as a juvenile and has won three of her eleven starts. She has been competitive on both dirt and turf and was last seen winning an optional claiming race on the lawn at Saratoga as the heavy favorite. Javier Castellano will be back aboard and they will break from post position eight.
